Extension Education Capacity Building

Project Abstract:
Forests and forest resources are the mainstay of British Columbia, contributing not only to provincial and national economies, but also to the social and environmental well being of our citizens and forest based communities. To ensure that our provincial forest sector continues to enhance its knowledge base, leadership must be shown to improve effectiveness and efficiency in cooperative SFM continuing education and extension program planning and delivery. As the FIA Forest Science Program and the associated Provincial Forest Extension Program, along with program partners, strive to ensure that the best available scientific, experiential and indigenous knowledge are accessible and useful to forestry professionals, leadership as well as mechanism to enable a continuous learning and knowledge culture needs to take place as well. This project will oversee the program implementation and leadership associated with improving the effectiveness and efficiency in cooperative SFM extension program planning and delivery. Activities such as the delivery of extension basics and extension planning workshops to extension providers as well as the development of collaborative research and extension proposals and projects will be undertaken by the extension team. Outreach to the research, policy, and operational communities as well as presentation outlining the various products and services available through the Forest Resources Dynamics Extension team will also be made in support of the Province's continued effort to improve the effectiveness of managing British Columbia’s forests to meet the long term needs of its citizens as well as its global obligations.
