Watershed Management Needs Assessments - Southern and Northern Interior

Project Abstract:
Needs assessments help to address concerns over the management of watershed resources as related to sustainable forest management as these reports provide a strategic focus for extension programming. A Coastal Watershed Management Needs Assessment was conducted in 2003 to identify current issues and needs, and it has strongly informed yearly extension programming for Coastal British Columbia. To complement this regional survey, two needs assessments are proposed (Southern Interior and Northern regions of British Columbia). Given the potential differences in regional driving factors for hydrological functioning of watersheds, it is critical to understand regional information and extension needs to deal with potential impacts of issues such as mountain pine beetle, wildfire, climate change, and other factors that influence the functioning of watersheds across British Columbia.
