Climate Change and Water Resources

Project Abstract:
Climate change has been identified as a major source of uncertainty in natural resources management in BC. Knowledge gaps related to potential climate change effects on water quantity and quality need to be addressed to ensure decisions being made today do not inhibit the ability to manage sustainably in the future. Integration between fields of landscape ecology and hydrology/geomorphology is required as the effects of climate change have the potential to influence the frequency and severity of a number of disturbance agents (e.g. insect, fire) which in-turn influence watershed processes and function. The focus of this project in 2009/10 is to provide peer assistance, outreach and extension support for the research and management communities in dealing with climate change implications. Through the peer assistance and outreach efforts the WM Specialists will also be determining potential topics for climate change programming in future years. During 2009/10, the Climate Change and Water Resources bibliography developed during 2008/09 will be posted to the FORREX website.
