Extension Programming to Increase Awareness and Knowledge of Aboriginal Forestry and Indigenous Science and Knowledge
Project Abstract: The Aboriginal Forestry Extension Program is core to the FORREX mandate. It is designed to share the latest innovations and science with the Aboriginal resource practitioners in BC as well as enable the exchange of Indigenous knowledge to support sustainable natural resource use. The Program strives to enable an increase in Indigenous Peoples Knowledge content in policy and plans; increase awareness and knowledge of Indigenous science, knowledge protocols and intellectual property issues, and to assist in the development of sustainability criteria and indicators meaningful to the Aboriginal community. Ongoing workshops, working group meetings and connections with Aboriginal Foresters and Aboriginal Forest Companies as well as non-Aboriginal parties is essential to achieving program objectives.
