Climate Change Impacts and Policies: Social, Economic, and Cultural Dimensions
Project Abstract: During the last fiscal year, the Socio-economics Extension Program published a synthesis “Carbon Management in BC’s Forests: Opportunities and Challenges” as a FORREX Series. Follow-up activities to this publication involve distributing it to policy-makers and forest managers, and organizing follow-up meetings to identify next steps. Another activity during the last fiscal year was partnering Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) to publish a climate change guidebook for forest-based communities titled “Pathways to Climate Change Resilience—A Guidebook for Canadian Forest-based Communities”. This year’s activities would involve continuing the partnership with NRCAN to publish and distribute the guidebook in BC. A LINK article to highlight the guidebook with a focus on BC which was drafted during the last year will be finalized and published. Also, during the current year, building on the FORREX Series on forest carbon management, and the guidebook on climate change opportunities for communities, an extension note presenting current knowledge on these topics, and on social, economic and cultural impacts and adaptations as related to climate change will be drafted. This extension note will include survey, interviews with key persons, and a literature search, and is expected to inform future extension programming. This extension note could either be published as a JEM article or FORREX series. A LINK article will also be drafted to summarize the extension note.
