Accessing Forest Resource Dynamics Information Through the World Wide Web
Project Abstract: In this networked world, the competitive advantage goes to those that can find, assimilate and use emerging knowledge to their benefit. However, the learners of today and tomorrow face a very dynamic learning environment and our challenge is to put new tools to work in the quest for sustainable resource management. To do this effectively requires timely access to relevant and trustworthy information as well as new technologies to be able to “stay in touch” with that information. This project is focused on working with partners to maintain and enhance access to the latest forest resource dynamics innovations through the World Wide Web products and services so that forest managers, decision-makers, researchers and practitioners (e.g. forest managers, field contractors, and forest management/science researchers) will have increased knowledge and awareness of current forest resources dynamics issues (including Mountain Pine Beetle), research and extension products and activities. To enhance this access to information, activities undertaken by the extension team will include regular updates to the various program pages included in the Forest Resources Dynamics Extension Program Cluster website (i.e., web links, program, and new publications). To support clients' identified need to “stay in touch” with all the new information or events related to forest resources dynamics that occur on an annual basis, including those produced by the Provincial Forest Extension Provider, the extension team has developed and maintained a Forest Resources Dynamics list (ForestDynamicsEXT) that keeps the clients informed in an effective and efficient manner (PFEP Client Needs Survey 2006). This listserv provide monthly Forest Resources Dynamics list postings (12 posts per year) and subscriber's list maintenance.
